– Colombo Street, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand

I remember it clearly. Turning into Colombo Street…the ground seemed to disappear. My car hung in the midst of nothing for what seemed like eternity. Then with a violent thud it began to pitch and roll in such a brutal manner that I was waiting for the car to tip. This went on for maybe 30 seconds… as soon as it stopped there were two or three seconds of silence, before the screams and sirens set in. The streets began to flood as I took in my surroundings. A collapsed air-bridge over Dundas Street…a crushed bus near St Asaph Street…blood on peoples faces…it was absolute chaos.
